Course Focus: Plumbing Procedures, Hands-On Demonstrations, and Exercises


Instructor Responsibilities:

1. Deliver Practical, Real-World Insights

  • Real-World Applications:
    • Provide real-world examples from your own plumbing experience to show how industry principles apply to everyday plumbing scenarios.
    • Share insights on common plumbing problems, troubleshooting tips, and industry-specific challenges that students might face in their careers.
    • Discuss the latest industry trends, including smart plumbing systems, energy-efficient solutions, and new materials, ensuring students understand the practical impact of these innovations.
  • Industry Standards and Best Practices:
    • Educate students on the best practices used by professional plumbers, from efficient pipe installation to customer service in plumbing jobs.
    • Emphasize the importance of code compliance, plumbing safety standards, and eco-friendly plumbing practices in real-world applications.

2. Conduct Hands-On Demonstrations

  • Demonstrate Key Plumbing Procedures:
    • Guide students through step-by-step demonstrations of critical plumbing tasks, such as pipe installation, fixture repairs, and troubleshooting.
    • Use real materials, tools, and plumbing systems for demonstrations to ensure students see how it works in practice.
    • Offer detailed explanations of how to solder pipes, install valves, fit fixtures, and repair leaks, ensuring students learn by doing.
  • Interactive, Guided Exercises:
    • Let students practice the procedures themselves while you guide them in real-time, providing feedback and corrections as necessary.
    • Ensure that students develop confidence in their plumbing skills through hands-on exercises, such as drain cleaning, pipe bending, and sealing pipe joints.
    • Encourage active participation during demonstrations by allowing students to ask questions, troubleshoot problems, and observe the process closely.

3. Encourage Critical Thinking and Problem Solving

  • Troubleshooting Exercises:
    • Present students with real-world plumbing problems (e.g., a clogged drain, a leaky pipe) and guide them through diagnostic steps to identify and fix the issues.

    • Incorporate safety best practices into every demonstration, such as how to safely handle pressurized pipes, work with hazardous materials, and avoid injury during installation or repairs.
  • Professionalism in the Field:
    • Discuss the importance of customer service, professionalism, and time management in plumbing work.
    • Share tips on how to handle customer interactions, troubleshoot plumbing problems on-site, and leave clients satisfied with the service provided.

6. Adapt to Various Learning Environments

  • Virtual Training Sessions:
    • For virtual or hybrid settings, use live streaming and virtual simulations to demonstrate plumbing techniques, and make use of video tools to show close-up views of tasks.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Plumbing Experience:

    • Master plumber or journeyman plumber certification is preferred.
  • Teaching or Mentoring Experience:
    • Experience teaching technical subjects or mentoring apprentices is highly desirable.

  • Excellent Communication Skills:
    • Strong verbal communication skills to explain plumbing concepts and engage students during both live and virtual sessions.

    • Ability to use interactive tools and video demonstrations for virtual or hybrid training formats.

Work Schedule:

  • Live Sessions: Conduct live sessions 2-3 times per week with a focus on practical, hands-on demonstrations.
  • Virtual Sessions: Weekly or bi-weekly virtual sessions for theoretical lessons, safety education, and troubleshooting discussions.
  • Office Hours/Support: Availability for student consultations, practical exercise reviews, and troubleshooting assistance.
