SayPro Tracking and Target Information for the Quarter

Quarterly Targets: Detailed Guidelines

As part of SayPro’s commitment to fostering strong academic writing skills, all participants are required to meet specific quarterly writing targets. These targets ensure consistent engagement with writing practice, meaningful progress in research and composition skills, and the production of high-quality work that reflects academic rigor and creative thinking.

1. Target Requirement

Minimum Writing Output:

Each participant is expected to complete a minimum of two (2) full-length academic writing pieces over the course of the quarter.

Word Count Range:

Each written piece should be approximately 3,000 to 5,000 words in length. This range allows for in-depth exploration of topics and the development of complex arguments, analyses, or narratives.

2. Purpose of Quarterly Writing Targets

The quarterly writing requirement is designed to:

  • Encourage sustained academic engagement through long-form projects.
  • Promote research-based writing that develops critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Support creative expression in the form of essays, papers, or interdisciplinary projects.
  • Measure progress over time, allowing instructors to assess development and provide tailored feedback.
  • Build a writing portfolio that participants can use for future academic or professional opportunities.

3. Types of Acceptable Writing Projects

Participants may choose from a range of academic and creative-academic formats, provided the work demonstrates:

  • Clear structure and coherence
  • Original thought and analysis
  • Proper research and referencing (if required)
  • Relevance to the selected prompt or academic discipline

Examples of acceptable writing pieces include:

  • Research papers (on social sciences, humanities, environmental studies, etc.)
  • Argumentative or persuasive essays
  • Analytical literary essays
  • Creative nonfiction with academic reflection
  • Interdisciplinary reports with academic citations
  • Policy analysis papers
  • Extended case studies or field reports

4. Assessment Criteria

All quarterly writing pieces will be reviewed and assessed by SayPro instructors based on the following core criteria:

Instructors will provide detailed feedback on each submitted piece, including suggestions for improvement and a progress rating toward overall learning goals.

5. Tracking Progress

To support accountability and organization, participants are required to maintain a Writing Progress Log (previously outlined), where they:

  • Record project titles and start dates
  • Track research and drafting milestones
  • Document instructor feedback
  • Note completion and submission dates

SayPro facilitators will check in with each participant at biweekly intervals to ensure that they are on track to meet their quarterly targets. These sessions may include individual reviews, peer feedback discussions, or writing workshops.

6. Submission Schedule

To help participants manage time effectively, the following schedule is recommended:

MonthMilestone
Month 1Topic selection, research begins
Month 2First full draft of Piece #1 submitted for review
Mid–Month 2Revised Piece #1 submitted
Month 3First draft of Piece #2 submitted
End of Month 3Final submission of Piece #2

Note: Participants may adjust the schedule slightly depending on the complexity of their chosen topics and feedback turnaround time.

  • Access to writing templates and revision checklists
  • Instructor and peer feedback sessions
  • Scheduled workshops on structuring, editing, and academic writing standards

This commitment to high standards ensures that each participant grows into a more capable, reflective, and independent writer over the duration of the program.
