Job Title: Media Outreach Coordinator
Position Overview
The Media Outreach Coordinator plays a critical role in amplifying SayProโs presence in national and international media by managing and executing strategic media engagement activities. This position is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with journalists, coordinating media campaigns, supporting SayPro consultants in media interactions, and ensuring consistent and impactful communication of SayProโs policy research and advocacy messages.
Key Responsibilities
1. Media Relations Management
- Develop and maintain an up-to-date media contact database segmented by region, sector, and media type.
- Build strong, professional relationships with journalists, editors, and media outlets to facilitate positive coverage.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries and interview requests.
2. Media Content Coordination
- Draft, edit, and distribute press releases, media advisories, statements, and briefing notes aligned with SayProโs strategic priorities.
- Coordinate the creation of media kits, including fact sheets, biographies, photos, and multimedia assets.
- Ensure all media materials comply with SayProโs branding, messaging guidelines, and quality standards.
3. Campaign and Event Support
- Plan and execute media campaigns around key research publications, events, or policy advocacy initiatives.
- Organize press conferences, media briefings, and interviews involving SayPro experts and stakeholders.
- Monitor media coverage related to SayProโs work and prepare regular reports on media impact and sentiment.
4. Consultant and Spokesperson Support
- Provide media training and briefing support to SayPro consultants and spokespersons to effectively articulate policy positions.
- Coordinate interview scheduling and ensure spokespersons are well-prepared with key messages and talking points.
5. Digital and Social Media Integration
- Collaborate with SayProโs communications team to amplify media content through digital platforms and social media channels.
- Track digital media metrics and optimize outreach strategies based on analytics.
6. Media Monitoring and Reporting
- Use media monitoring tools to track coverage, identify emerging media opportunities, and report on media trends relevant to SayProโs work.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly media reports for senior management and stakeholders.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelorโs degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Political Science, or related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in media relations, communications, or public affairs, preferably within a non-profit, research, or policy environment.
- Strong understanding of media landscapes, including traditional and digital platforms.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to craft clear and compelling messages.
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with media professionals.
- Experience in organizing media events and managing press conferences.
- Competency in media monitoring and analytics tools (e.g., Meltwater, Google Alerts, Cision).
- Proficiency in digital communications and social media management.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and engage with diverse stakeholders.
Reporting Line
The Media Outreach Coordinator reports to the Communications Manager or Head of Communications at SayPro.
Working Conditions
- This position may require occasional travel for media events, conferences, and stakeholder meetings.
- The role may involve working under tight deadlines and handling multiple simultaneous media requests.
